My bread recipe is so super super easy to use especially if you have never made bread before! AND this recipe uses plain flour so no faffing trying to access white flour if you are still self-isolating like me. This recipe also doesn't need any fancy equipment which is why l love it so much <3
Equipment:
Large Bowl
Wooden spoon
Large Baking tin
Sieve
Measuring Jug
Scale
Ingredients
500g plain flour plus extra for dusting
One sachet of dry fast action yeast
One tsp of caster sugar
290ml of lukewarm water
Salt
Some melted butter for greasing
Method
Pour the yeast in the 290ml of lukewarm water. Add the tsp of sugar and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it is foamy
Meanwhile, sift the flour and salt into a large bowl making sure the salt is mixed in well.
Pour the foamy mixture into the bowl and mix together with a wooden spoon until it comes together
Dust a clean surface with a little bit of flour and turn the mixture out. Knead the dough for around 20 minutes, adding a drop more water if the dough looks cracked or dry. The dough should be springy to touch and have a smooth glossy look
Return the dough to the bowl and cover with a damp towel and leave for 1 hour 30 minutes or 1 hour if the kitchen is warm.
After this, the dough should have risen significantly. Remove the dough and knead again for around another 5 minutes
Grease your baking tin and roll out the dough so it looks like a rectangle (see picture below) and then fold the edges underneath itself.
Place dough in a warm place and cover with an oiled sheet of cling film. Leave to rest for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 190 degrees C
After 30 minutes, remove the cling film and place in the oven for 20 minutes.
Remove from the oven and immediately turn out the bread onto a wire rack upside down to allow the bottom to dry.
